A soft, high-pile washable wool rug

Please note: this piece is designed to be pliable so it more easily fits in a washing machine. As such, we *highly* recommend you pair it with a rug pad for stability, comfort, and longevity. Trust us-it's worth it.

  • Wool on cotton with natural latex-sealed back
    • You may find traces of dried hay, grass, or straw in your rug as grazing sheep often collect plant matter in their coats. Remove gently by hand or with tweezers.
    • Authentic wool fibers were used to weave this rug. Please note that when wool gets damp, it will smell like a wet sheep. This is the scent of lanolin, which acts as a waxy barrier against dirt and moisture.
  • High pile: approximately 3/4" thick (18mm)
  • This piece can be thrown in the washer!
  • The shedding quantity and duration varies by foot traffic and rug construction
  • Shedding is typical for most rugs for the first 6-9 months
  • Please note: this piece is designed to be pliable so it more easily fits in a washing machine. As such, we *highly* recommend you pair it with a rug pad for stability, comfort, and longevity. Trust us-it's worth it.
  • Due to its handmade nature a 3% variance in size, color and texture is to be expected.

The Collection

Our first collection of washable wool rugs involved many rounds of revision to ensure these pieces were beautiful and functional. Their modified construction makes the rugs quite supple, so they're more easily squashed into a washing machine; without compromising on thickness, softness, and fluffiness. The graphic simplicity of the linework sings across their soft fields, allowing the high-low effect of the pile to shine through.

The Design

Named for esteemed linocut artists, these rugs feature a thick cut-pile design which reads as tone-on-tone. Taylor is engraved in a loose, gestural, oversized plaid. Look closely at its grid and you'll notice that the horizontal lines are ever-so-slightly darker than their vertical counterparts-a subtle, enriching detail.

The Material

Washable wool rugs with a soft, satisfying footfall and pleasing weight, Lino is woven of a combination of New Zealand and Indian wools to achieve just the right texture and durability. New Zealand wool is a premium wool beloved for its softness and long fibers. The fiber's natural lanolin makes it soft and shiny, protecting it from shedding and dirt. It also decomposes quickly, without risk of microfibers.

The Maker

We partnered with a small, family-run weaving house. They're Craftmark-certified, which means they meet stringent national standards for socially responsible handmade products. Many of their weavers have been with them for as long as 30 years. To visit their factory is to be steeped in its personal history, from the walls of photographs honoring their lineage, to the majestic, hundred-year-old timber looms they still use today.

The Designer

Our in-house, all-star design team collaborates across three different countries. Based in Los Angeles, Istanbul, and Mumbai, they put a lot of thought into each and every collection they design. Starting with the weave itself, they determine material and technique, then create moodboards to capture the look and feel before starting to design. When designs are finalized, they conduct an extensive sampling process, perfecting each style and color before it goes to production.

  • Clean on low power with a non-rotary vacuum or suction attachment (no spinning brush) only.
  • Lightly vacuum the rug once a week
  • Use a high-quality rug pad to absorb shock and reduce damage to the pile
  • Hot tip: when you receive your rug, put it in the dryer for 10 minutes on low heat to remove any creases.
  • When it's time for a deeper clean, machine wash your rug with like colors on a delicate setting with 1 TBSP of unscented, clear detergent.
  • Wash rug separately with mild detergent on a gentle cycle at 86°F. Do not use fabric softener or bleach. Tumble dry low; remove promptly.
  • For sizes 6'x9' and 8'x10', we recommend using an 80-lb washing machine, for 9'x12' rugs we recommend a 100-lb washing machine. These larger sizes require a commercial washing machine, the kind you'd find at a laundromat rather than a home washing machine, which tends to hold 20-25 lbs.
  • For sizes 10'x14' and above, spot cleaning is best.
  • Be sure to wash rugs according to their recommended washing machine size capacity. Please note: failure to adhere to size recommendations could result in damage to your machine.
  • A slight shrinkage of up to 5% can be expected for all washable rugs
  • The first few times you wash your rug, there will be some fluff left in the washing machine. Don't be alarmed; this will lessen and ultimately stop. The yarn continues to open after washing, making the rug fluffier with time.
  • Due to the hand-crafted nature of our rugs, you can expect to see light shedding, matting, and signs of fiber and thread breakage over time. For high traffic areas, these effects may occur more quickly and easily.
  • Spot cleaning instructions:
    • Lightly dampen a paper towel or cloth with clean water
    • Gently blot the affected area with your damp towel or cloth to dilute the stain
    • If the stain persists, try using an unscented, citrus-free, clear soap to avoid bleaching the textile.
    • Repeat this process until the stain is removed
