A flatweave rug of recycled PET

A flatweave rug of recycled PET

  • 100% mill-carded recycled polyester
  • Flatweave: approximately 5/8" thick (15mm)
  • The shedding quantity and duration varies by foot traffic and rug construction
  • We recommend you pair this piece with a rug pad for comfort and longevity
  • Due to its handmade nature a 5% variance in size, color and texture is to be expected.

The Design

As cozy as your favorite sweatshirt, this rug blends casual comfort with quiet luxury. Mill-carding, a process which separates and straightens yarn fibers, gives it a pleasant uneven texture underfoot. Made of recycled materials, this rug resembles a textural wool flatweave in touch and appearance-minus the shedding.

The Material

These pieces are flatwoven by hand with a recycled polyester called polyethylene terephthalate, or PET for short. A soft and sustainable fiber with the look and feel of wool, recycled PET is highly durable and easy to clean. It's made by sorting, washing, and melting recycled plastic, which would normally end up in landfills. Because it's non-porous, it doesn't readily absorb moisture, meaning your rug is mildew-resistant.

The Maker

Our partner in Bhadohi began as a small weaver 40 years ago, and today they focus on sustainable, durable products, as well as creating and maintaining a healthy working environment for their artisans. Many of their processes involve handiwork: hand-picked fleece, handspun wool, hand-knotting, hand-carving and embroidery.

The Designer

Our in-house, all-star design team collaborates across three different countries. Based in Los Angeles, Istanbul, and Mumbai, they put a lot of thought into each and every collection they design. Starting with the weave itself, they determine material and technique, then create moodboards to capture the look and feel before starting to design. When designs are finalized, they conduct an extensive sampling process, perfecting each style and color before it goes to production.

  • For hard-to-remove stains, we recommend professional rug cleaning.
  • Avoid prolonged direct exposure to sunlight, although leaving your rug out to dry in the sun for a few hours on occasion (1-2 times a year) is actually good for the fibers
  • Vacuum on low power with a non-rotary (no spinning brush) vacuum or suction attachment only.
  • Due to the hand-crafted nature of our rugs, you can expect to see light shedding, matting, and signs of fiber and thread breakage over time. For high traffic areas, these effects may occur more quickly and easily.
  • Spot cleaning instructions:
    • Lightly dampen a paper towel or cloth with clean water
    • Gently blot the affected area with your damp towel or cloth to dilute the stain
    • If the stain persists, try using an unscented, citrus-free, clear soap to avoid bleaching the textile.
    • Repeat this process until the stain is removed
